Every year, more than 9,000 people die by suicide in Germany. That&#8217;s almost twice as many deaths as from traffic accidents.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that the number of people killed in traffic accidents has been falling for many years clearly shows the great success of the permanent further development of preventive measures.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #86b23e;\">We therefore call for suicide prevention to be made a priority health policy task.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>People with severe mental illness have a significantly increased risk of dying by suicide. Only for a few is the act of suicide the result of thorough consideration and mature decision-making.
